Albarino 2022 Bodegas Sucesores de Benito Santos, Spain
If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air… then you’ll love this wine. Albarino, from Galicia, can be rich and tropical or more stonefruity and mineral - and this is definitely the latter. Just one sip makes us salivate for some gambas al ajillo. Or a whole, roast Dover sole. Sucesores de Benito Santos is a winery based in the Rías Baixas wine region, a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) on the rugged Atlantic Galician coast. Back in the 1970s, the late Benito Santos, a local lad, saw the potential for Albarino to be loved and appreciated beyond Galicia and set up a winery to make world class wines. Today, the successors of Benito Santos have continued his philosophy of minimal human intervention, without mechanisation - every grape is sacred. It’s a wonderfully pure expression of Albarino. We love the label, too.
