Santa's Little Helper Mixed Case - Christmas 2022
We've put together a collection of six banging wines to see you through the big day. All for £75.
L`Ormarins MCC Brut NV, Anthonij Rupert Wyne, South Africa
The L'Ormarins Cap Classique Brut NV from Franschhoek is a Chardonnay/Pinot Noir blend aged for up to four years in bottle before being disgorged. It has notes of caramelised apples, pastry and roasted hazelnuts - and a lovely mousse. And miles better than cheap Champagne. Great for getting the festivities started - with smoked salmon, canapés or cheese and onion crisps.
Chardonnay 2021, Montsablé, France
Pristine Chardonnay from the Haute Vallée de L’Aude close to Limoux. Beautifully ripe fruit, with hints of yellow plum, peaches and a touch of gingerbread. Some of your friend and family might think this is a village Mâcon. Not oaked. The white to have with the turkey, ham or mushroom Wellington. Good for the cheese course, too.
Bordeaux Blanc 2021, Chateau Haut-Grelot, France
Vibrant Sauvignon calmed down and rounded out by Semillon. Refreshing grapefruit notes with a hint of smokiness. The one to serve with some trout paté, goat's cheese salad, prawn cocktail, turkey breast or some pork. A good one to have on hand for when the neighbours drop round.
Reserva 2016, Castillo de Eneriz, Spain
Such a great value wine that straddles the bridge between old school Rioja and Bordeaux - and really looks the part. It's not the first time it has appeared in one of our Christmas cases - and probably not the last. A blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Tempranillo. Aged in barrel, 30% new. Good with duck, goose and we reckon turkey once you take into account the gravy and the trimmings. And if you're bucking the trend and having lamb... Good for the cheese course, too,
Le Sabounet NV, Roger Sabon, France
A Grenache/Syrah blend from a top Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer that combines power and comfort in a glass. Banging with beef - or a full-flavoured nut roast.
Beaumes De Venise 2020, Bernardins, France
Classic sweet wine from the Southern Rhone, fortified to halt fermentation and keep the delightful floral and grapey aspect of the Muscat grape luscious. Has a lovely coppery tint. Good with trifle, panettone, pavlovas but it's not going to be terrible with Christmas pud.
NB: There's no extra discount on these wines (it's already built into the box).
