Banyuls, often regarded as France’s counterpart to Port, is crafted from Grenache, fortified to retain its natural sweetness, and aged to develop complexity. Coume del Mas, a boutique estate celebrated for meticulous care and low yields, presents “Quintessence” as a premium cuvée that emphasizes concentration, purity, and terroir.

 Made predominantly from Grenache Noir grown on steep, schist-rich slopes by the Mediterranean, it reveals intense aromas of black cherry, fig, and dried raspberry. Layers of cocoa, spiced fruitcake, and Mediterranean herbs mingle with notes of coffee, molasses, and subtle tobacco from oak aging. Coastal hints of iodine and salinity add depth. This luscious, full-bodied wine balances rich sweetness with lively acidity, offering flavors of black plum, dark chocolate, dried orange peel, and balsamic undertones, finished with silky tannins and a long, nutty, and spicy finish.
