Lucky’s Syrah-Pinot Noir 2020, From Sunday Winemakers, Australia
Hunter Valley grapes making a dynamic, gluggable blend that’s smooth yet vibrant
A brilliant wine for those late May/early June days when you have no idea whether it’s going to be warm and sunny or a bit grey, windy and meh. Made by three guys who met studying wine science - and collectively calling themselves From Sunday (that’s one of them on the front label) - this has rich Hunter Valley Syrah blended with fresher, lighter Pinot. Again, not two grapes you often find together, but this really works.
From Sunday don’t own vineyards - they get their grapes from growers or vineyards they’ve leased. This is not uncommon for young, craft winemakers in the new and increasingly old world. They’re following a philosophy using indigenous yeasts, no enzymes, no additions, no fining and minimal sulfites. Just hugely drinkable wines.
You can also chill this but take care - at 14.5%, it can slip down a little too easily!
