Negrette is a grape that's been in the Fronton region of the Languedoc Roussillon for absolutely ages - since the middle ages. Here, it's blended with 15% Syrah and 15% Gamay. It is a food wine, and can feel a little tight on first pour, so let it open up in a decanter or large glass and you will be rewarded. 

Good with a whole range of food - from steak to a properly garlicky roast chicken and that famous French dish, toad-in-the-hole (with sausages or root veg).
