Kalmoesfontein White 2019, A A Badenhorst, South Africa
A smogasbord of grapes usually found in the Southern Rhone all playing a supporting role to Chenin. A rich, textured white from Swartland that speaks to the soul.
The 2019 is just over 50% Chenin, with close to equal quantities Semillon and Roussanne, and some Viognier, Grenache and Palomino, all handpicked from mostly old vineyards planted on the decomposed granite slopes of Kalmoesfontein. Fermented and aged in one 1200 and one 3000L foudre.
We'll admit that it is really rather gorgeous to drink now. But if you choose to lay this down for a few years, it will take on all sorts of honeyed tones.
