Cosimo Maria Masini’s head winemaker, Francesco De Filippis, generally likes to make wines outside the rigid Chianti DOCG rules... and while it does follow DOCG regulations, it most definitely has the CMM stamp on it. The one we drank recently had a lifted, floral scent (like a Pinot) with lots of more typical ripe red cherry notes on the palate. It’s mainly Sangiovese, with a permitted 10% of local grapes, which all come from a vineyard called “Raimondo” planted in 2008. The winery likes to name things after relatives… This uplifting Chianti is great with slow roast pork, roasted autumn veg, tomato-based dishes or after a meal with a bit of gruyère or comté.
