Catharsis Red 2020, Cathar(tic) Wines, France
This wine is winning many fans since we started stocking it. It’s made by a friend of ours, Richard Bray, who lives in Chiswick when he is not in the Roussillon. Richard, started making wine in 2008 when working at a wine shop in St Andrews, helping out a mentor who had taken a job making wine in France near the Spanish Border (and wrote a book about it called Salt & Old Vines).
He started doing his own thing in 2016, as Cathartic Wines, making small amounts. In 2019 he made slightly more of the small amounts, which means there is more to go around. This wine is made from old vine Grenache currently undergoing organic conversion. It sees no oak and the juice is separated from the skins before fermentation is finished, so it stays lighter in texture and fresher - and it doesn’t need food to enjoy this. it is incredibly easy to drink - trust us.
