Barbaresco 2016, Produttori de Barbaresco, Italy
This Barbaresco may be made by a cooperative, but it is frequently picked by sommeliers and fine wine experts as one of the top wines in the region. It comes from the same region as Barolo - Piedmont - and is made from the same grape - Nebbiolo. But its soils are richer - and it tends to make comparatively less tannic wines (and wines are released a year earlier than Barolo). But make no mistake - this is still a powerful, structured wine that will age for another 15 or so years. It has a lovely dense core of fruit, with rose, tar and tobacco notes. Can it be drunk now? Yes! We had it with slow cooked beef short ribs. 2016 was a great year for Barbaresco.
