Culver Hill 2018, Woodchester Valley, England
A crisp, aromatic blend (Bacchus, Ortega, Seyval Blanc) from the Cotswolds. Makes us want to leap into an open-topped sports car and hurtle down Devon country lanes. Not while drinking, obvs... This is quintessentially English. A Downton Abbey sort of English. A cycling-down-a-country-lane-in-dappled-sunlight sort of wine. If the actress Lily James were a wine, this would be it. A blend of England’s finest grapes - Bacchus, Seyval Blanc and Ortega, it sings of elderflowers, apples and lime. Woodchester Valley Vineyard was founded in 2007 by Fiona Shiner who decided to plant a field the family owned (Culver Hill) as a vineyard, knowing that the area used to be popular with Roman nobility - who may well have grown their own grapes for wine there, as they did in other parts of the country.
