England’s answer to Sancerre
The Bacchus grape was created in the 1930s in Germany from crossing an already crossed grape (Silvaner x Riesling) with Muller-Thurgau - but it’s found its home in England where it is the fourth most planted grape, after those grown to make sparkling wine #facts.
It has an air of the Sauvignon Blanc about it and comes in a number of different styles. We particularly like this one from Bolney in Sussex for its Sancerre-like elegance.
A perfect aperitif or one to enjoy with light canapes, for when you get the neighbours round for seasonal drinks and want to impress them with something a bit different.
