Explorer Pinot Noir 2019, Domaine Thomson, New Zealand
A Pinot from Central Otago that doesn't roar* but purrs...
As Burgundy gets increasingly unaffordable for most of us, we have to look elsewhere to get out premium Pinot kicks.
Domaine Thomson is a family-owned wine producer, with vineyards and homes in Central Otago and Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy. So, while expressing the terroir where the grapes are grown, stylistically this Pinot definitely feels a touch gallic, with its earthy spiciness.
* A feeble attempt at referring to Mount Difficulty's famous, mahoosive Pinot from the same area
