Eisenhut Roter Veltliner 2019, Eschenhof Holzer, Austria
Roter Veltliner is not to be confused with the more well-known Gruner Veltliner. Not closely related, if related at all, apparently (though it's hard to know sometimes with all the crossing that created many of the country's grapes). Anyhooo, we not sure it really matters because this is a blinkin' tasty wine.
It has a slightly honeyed texture, some orange notes, a little sweet spice but still a great acidic structure. Reminds us a little of a dry Alsace white. At 12.5%, you get a lot of wine. Good with cooked shellfish dishes, roast pork, fried chicken.
