Blaufrankisch Johanneshohe 2019, Prieler, Austria

Georg Prieler's aim with this wine is to produce a Blaufrankisch with "elegance, drinkability and fruit" and this really does deliver. If you like Pinots and Gamays, then this is a must-try. It matches depth of flavour with a lightness of touch, mellow yet enlivening. It doesn't need food, but is super-adaptable from spicy food to mild creamy cheeses. We'd happily bunk off work with a bottle of this.
The grapes for this wine come from nine different iron and fossil-rich vineyards around the Leithaberg wine region in Eastern Austria, near its border with Hungary.
